Jupiter Hospital Performs First Robotic Kidney Transplants Using Toumai Robotic System

Mumbai,4th, August, 2026 : In a significant milestone for robotic surgery, Jupiter Hospital, Thane has successfully performed the world’s first robotic kidney transplant surgeries outside China using the CE-certified Toumai robotic surgical system from MicroPort MedBot. The two consecutive transplants were successfully carried out on patients with end-stage kidney disease, both of whom recovered well after surgery.
The procedures were led by senior transplant surgeon Dr. P. P. Rao, with robotic kidney transplant surgeon Dr. Lokesh Sinha performing the robotic procedures alongside the multidisciplinary transplant team. The achievement marks another milestone for Jupiter Hospital’s kidney transplant programme, which is now in its 15th year and 3rd year of Robotic Kidney transplant, while reinforcing its leadership in advanced robotic transplant surgery.
Kidney transplantation demands exceptional precision while reconstructing delicate blood vessels and the urinary tract. The Toumai robotic platform provided high-definition three-dimensional visualization together with enhanced dexterity, precision, and surgical control, supporting the surgical team in performing these highly complex procedures.
“Kidney transplantation is among the most challenging procedures in surgery. Our focus has always been to provide patients with the safest and most advanced treatment options available. These successful surgeries demonstrate what can be achieved through an experienced multidisciplinary transplant team supported by advanced robotic technologies. As robotic surgery continues to evolve, world-class platforms like Toumai that combine high clinical performance with greater affordability have the potential to expand patient access to complex procedures across India,” said Dr. P. P. Rao.
“Robotic surgery continues to expand the boundaries of minimally invasive surgery. Successfully completing these kidney transplant procedures reflects the combined strength of surgical expertise, meticulous planning, and advanced technology, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes and recovery,” added Dr. Lokesh Sinha.
With this achievement, Jupiter Hospital further strengthens its position as one of India’s leading centres for advanced robotic surgery and organ transplantation. The milestone also marks another step in the global clinical adoption of the Toumai robotic surgical system from MicroPort MedBot, demonstrating its growing role in supporting complex surgical procedures worldwide.
